I was lucky enough to have been born here in Georgia. Been here most of my life! In 1989, I moved from South Georgia (Albany) to the Metro Atlanta area. In a space of 2 to 3 hours...and some 200 miles, my world changed. I had no idea that other parts of Georgia were so different than where I was from!!! It was a real culture shock, but a very brave and positive move on my part. I had learned that there were more options and opinions than my world allowed me to believe. I learned that people do wear shoes and do a lot more than fish or tend farms on the weekend. I leaned that big cities have "traffic news"-in Albany, there was no such thing. If someone wrecked we all knew it, because we knew everyone. There are NO GNATS, in North Georgia!!! I go home sometimes and I wondered how I made it out of there! Of course, there are the things I miss. I miss the swamps. I miss the smell of pine! You rarely smell a good pine tree in the city, you just don't!! There is not much Spanish Moss in the city. I do not see many corn fields or cotton fields. I miss the sound of a train!! they are here, yes.....but there is something about living in the county and hearing the train! There is no SOuthern Twangs....(ha), and the only country store you really see in the city are the ones MADE to look like the ones we have down south! I love my state! THere is something about it. From one extreme to another, it is such a beautiful captivating place. Ya'll come on out here,Visit us, find out what I mean! Whichever part of Georgia You decide to go to, you will enjoy it and fall in love with it!
