Get Organized!
I'm not a fan clutter (literal and mental), but sometimes (especially with children) it's unavoidable... or is it? This is place to share ideas on how to conquer that seemingly impossible clutter in our lives (and help our kids do the same).
Oct. 11. 2008A decluttering project post: http://creativemamma.com/decluttering-project-books/ Yup, we're at it again!
about 1 year agoComments (2)I cleaned out and reorganized the space under our master sink a few weekends ago and of course, blogged about it. *haha* Approach and photos here, http://www.theproductivemom.com/2010/10/undersink-organization.html
about 1 year agoWe just reorganized my art supplies and got rid of 90% of the items... It was certainly bittersweet, but it feels good not to have so much clutter around! Oh and here's another awesome article by the good folks of unclutterer: "Five Simple Ways To Easily Organize Your Things" http://unclutterer.com/2010/10/07/five-simple-ways-to-easily-organize-your-things/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+unclutterer+%28Unclutterer%29&utm_content=Google+Reader
about 1 year agoKeep the wedding dress or not? I have my wedding dress - professionally preserved and in a box. My daughter most likely won't wear it because it's a size 10-12 and she's just a 0-2..and style-wise, not her style at all. My husband said it's one of those things that we hold on to because we feel guilty so we leave it up to those who leave behind to make a decision... He said its best to donate it to charity since there are those who can't afford to buy a wedding dress... Any thoughts?

about 1 year agoOrganize This! By ELISSA GOOTMAN GLIDING into Susan Hitzig and Ken Yaffe’s apartment, in a doorman building off Central Park West, Barbara Reich did not waste time ogling the obvious: the sleek kitchen, the view of the American Museum of Natural History, the sophisticated living room bearing no trace of the couple’s three children. Instead, Ms. Reich peered into a closet, where she found mismatched hangers and decreed, “This is wrong.” Ms. Reich zoned in on a pile of books and games on the floor: “There’s no reason we should have a stack of stuff like this.” Then she got to work. A puzzle with a missing piece? Garbage. A half-assembled Playmobil boat? Likewise. A drawer full of wooden blocks? Gone. Birthday party favors were subject to the 24-hour rule: “You let them play with it for 24 hours, then it’s garbage.” A checkers set was a recent gift from a relative, but had only black pieces. “She won’t love you any less,” Ms. Reich said as she tossed it. Then there were the notebooks, now touching artifacts, filled with the earliest handwriting of the couple’s 8-year-old son, Lucas. “Everybody’s going to learn how to read and write,” Ms. Reich said. “You don’t need the evidence.” Three hours — and $450 — later, a dozen trash bags had been whisked out the door, containing, among other treasures, a toy pizza, the game Operation and two polyester sports uniforms from seasons past, based on Ms. Reich’s frank assessment that Lucas was unlikely to ever make the Hall of Fame. “A lot of it is wasteful,” Ms. Reich acknowledged as she glanced at a bag brimming with games and balls and stuffed animals with a lot of play left in them. “Our society is wasteful.” Then she turned toward Ms. Hitzig and said: “But this will free her mind. Her mind will be free.” Ms. Hitzig, a svelte blonde in her 40s who worked as a real estate lawyer until her twins were born five years ago, testified, “This woman has changed my life.” http://www.nytimes.com/2011/01/09/nyregion/09organizer.html?src=me&ref=general

8 months agoThe Little Productivity Tip of a Zen Master....
Deal with something once. Do it now. Then it’s off your mind, and you can fully focus on the next matter.
The whole piece, right here:http://zenhabits.net/once/6 months agoThis web page has some great tips for staying organized! They include... - store bedlinen sets inside one of their own pillowcases and there will be no more hunting through piles for a match. - re-use a wet-wipes container to store plastic bags. - use wire to make a space to store gift wrap rolls against the ceiling, rather than cluttering up the floor. - use magnetic strips to store bobby pins (and tweezers and clippers) behind a vanity door.
