So my daughter wants to start a club that is around the idea of kids helping the environment ….
So, I know the obvious places to start – invite those we know and put up a few fliers (at maybe the library or something like that). And the obvious first activity is to pick up trash at some park or field or something like that.
But what are the non-obvious things I should be doing? You should hear her talk about this – the girls got vision. She’s already talking fund raisers to get money to buy supplies we would need and is talking about teaching kids new ways to do things that are better for the environment. She also already knows what she wants to send out to parents “Parents do you want your kids to be healthier and have a prettier planet to live on. Then let them come to my club!”
It’s cute and it’s great and I want to move forward with it. But my mind is hitting a mental block and I know there is more I could/should be doing. So please, any advice would be awesome! =)

What a super girl you have! She had to learn her ecological consciousness somewhere…wonder where she got it?
Before getting started, I would sit down with her and tackle basic things like her mission: in 25 words or less, how does she describe what this club is for (sounds like she’s pretty much got that down). Then, decide, who is welcome. Is there an age limit? Geographic limit? When kids are doing an activity like pickiing up trash, how many adults are supervising them? To what extent are parents involved? If non-parents are involved, how are they screened to ensure the kids’ safety? (Sorry, former lawyer thinking liability issues here). And how do decisions get made about what activities to pursue?
Good luck! I wish my kids could be in her club!
