Everywhere I turn there are layers and layers of plastic on everything I buy these days, and it’s so tiresome. Don’t companies know that we want them to be more eco-friendly? Not to mention, it drives me nuts to have to use scissors to pry off the hard plastic that coats so many items for kids. Please, companies, get with the program!!!

Yes, me!!!!! I refuse to buy anything that is packaged in an irresponsible way. It pisses me off, actually. I mean when you buy something that is in packaging 100% bigger than the product itself, or the plastic, wrap, etc. is excessive, it just says to me—CARELESS, THOUGHTLESS, IRRESPONSIBLE. The companies that get this idea of “conserve, be smart, be thoughtful” are so few and far between. It is just lazy thinking and production on these multi-national, all-men-in the corner offices, almighty dollar companies’ parts. I girlcott all that stuff with pride because if they don’t think about their packaging, they sure don’t care about the consumer either. I am to the point that you can’t really trust any of them. BUY LOCAL!!!!

And you need to be a mastermind criminal to break into any of the packaging.
    I hate it. Such waste!!

Mamma Loves, I laughed out loud when I read your comment. I had just spent about 100 hours trying to free a red power ranger from layers of plastic encasement and boxes. : ) I am with you, I don’t get it and it is a HUGE waste.

My mom calls the toy packages diabolical.
    I LOVE that word.

MammaLoves, your mom is completely and 100% right. It is diabolical, and that is the PERFECT word!

Yes! I hate trying to get things out of their packages. It’s not easy, it’s wasteful, and it’s really annoying. Ugh.
I know it’s silly, but every Christmas dh and I just know we will spend more hours trying to open the darn presents then the kids will get to open them! MammaLoves it right – it’s just diabolical!!

Plastic cuts, papercuts, dulled scissors and when we get it all out, it’s leaded! You are so right!

Yes, it’s eco-unfriendly & frustrating, etc. But don’t fault the makers. It would be less expensive for them to eliminate some of the packaging but the cost of theft is far greater. That’s the main reason for it. Yes, it’s to catch the eye, etc as far as the outside. But the glued on plastic & the annoying twisty ties are to prevent shoplifting.

Wdksmom, You’re right of course. I’d add that the big hard plastic packaging also makes the products very appealing to the eye. Kids and their parents pass by, and they can see everything right there for purchase, and it’s an easier sell. If only there was an easier, more eco-friendly way.

Has anyone ever tried those biodegradable (this is slightly off topic, sorry) “plastic” bags made of cornstarch? I heard they were of mixed value, picking up after the dog….but would love not to be packaging dog feces for future generations, as the law currently requires!

I’d like to know this too. I was just reading about them, and have no idea how they are. Hate to think of intombing those feces in industrial strength petrochemcial biproducts.

I don’t have a dog to pick up after, but I was wondering about that because of the diapers I sometimes toss in bags (when they are particularly smelly or when we are out of the house). I keep thinking that someday someone will be able to find one of those bags and see what kinds of food we fed our kids today because they will still be around 100’s and 100’s of years from now!
