When I attend panels at conferences I LOVE action items. So here’s an action item suggestion from me out of the “Embrace the Chaos” panel.
It helps so much to hear and learn from other’s experiences, and for that reason, let’s have a conversation about what chaos looks like to each of us. Everyone is different, and we each have different things that stop us cold. The media guesses what it is that gets us women off track, but if we share our own chaos stories here, we will get a pretty good understanding of what chaos really means these days.
Then, for bonus points, tell us how you deal - or dealt - with the chaos in your life. We all benefit from not only the “been there”s but also the “works for me”s!
I look forward to hearing your stories!

I so enjoyed the panel discussion today! (The whole conference was great, as it has been every time I’ve attended!)
I have dealt with various levels of chaos my entire adult life…this changed dramatically for the better five years ago when my husband and I decided that he would retire and be a stay at home dad to our two children (now 11 and 14). So for me the daily struggle between work commitments and family commitments has been greatly reduced, but I am now learning (trying to learn) to stay ahead of the occasional chaotic interludes. Every few months I am reminded (by a snarky comment from my husband or a pouty look from my daughter) that I need to put away the laptop and focus for a bit on what’s going on at home. The new habit that I’m trying to develop is to check in, find some alone time with my husband, or just sit and enjoy my kids without having to be reminded. This is a gift that I’ve given myself (and my family likes it too!) But like all habits, the new ones take some effort to form and it is very easy to fall back on the old ones.
I applaud the women from all backgrounds and lifestyles who know what they want, can share themselves fully, but retain enough of their time and attention to themselves.
    Blessings to you all!

Alicia, thank you so much for posting. I sometimes dream that my husband would do what yours did! I love the new “check in” habit you are working on—I need to do that. Thanks so much for joining! I look forward to sharing more tips in the future!

Chaos for me is when I feel like I have no control over the stuff going on in my life. Sometimes there’s not much I can do about it. Sometimes it helps me to focus on one small aspect, so I can begin to feel a sense of control again. Sometimes this means spending an entire afternoon cleaning out one cabinet, or analyzing our expenses from the last month so I can budget better. Sometimes, honestly, it means praying.
