More than half of the approximately 10 million child deaths (98 percent of which are in developing countries) result from preventable or treatable causes such as pneumonia. The deaths of 500,000 women due to pregnancy-related complications could be prevented each year with basic health services. The solutions required to save these lives exist already and are affordable.
