Link List Item: Be the Change Award

Congratulations to Madeleine Steczynski of Boston. In 1991, Madeleine founded ZUMIX, a unique program that inspires and empowers young people — most from low-income families — to use music to make positive changes in their lives, their communities and the world. She started the program in her living room with just $200, and today, there are more than 200 children on the waiting list to enjoy programs in songwriting, music technology and instrumental music. The programming is an alternative way for children to deal with frustration, anger and fear, and an innovative method of building cultural understanding and acceptance in one of Boston’s most diverse neighborhoods.
