When have you failed as a parent?

While I edit my latest documentary film, "Lost In Living," I occasionally post very short clips from the film and ask a question. (See video attached.) The film follows four mothers who are also artists over a seven year period. Two women were pregnant when I began and two others already had adult children. So many topics and themes have been touched on and I thought I'd share some here and on my blog. (http://maandpafilms.blogspot.com/) Film website: www.maandpafilms.com/lostinliving/ I feel like I fail most as a parent when I expect to get it right with my daughter every time. When I think I have all the answers and don't understand that sometimes she has to find her own solutions. What about you? Check out the video attached and thanks!

    Creative Parenting

Hi, I'm a bit new to this, but I published an essay in this month's Elle magazine about my bipolar father's parenting--and how wildly creative his disease made him as as parent. And: how that boxed my mother into the role of saying no, no, no. His extremes pushed her to a parenting role that she might not have gone to on her own. They're both gone now, he 27 years ago, she last year, and as I've been thinking about them, I thought about how my own young son will remember me as a parent. So I wrote about it and I'd be curious to know how other mothers feel about this. Thanks! http://www.elle.com/Life-Love/Society-Career-Power/My-Father-s-Magical-Parenting

    Blunder Buys

Have you ever bought a product you thought you would love only to get it home and be sorely disappointed? Whether it's Christmas, birthdays or any other gift giving occasion some advance warning of not so great products is appreciated by everyone. Use this circle to inform others about products you have been disatisfied with.

    LATEST POSTED BY: indiana
I was sitting here beginning to think about Christmas. Even feeling a little proud because I've already picked up a few things when I remembered a big disappointment of mine from last year. Each year I get at least one ornament for each of my children. Many times I'll pick them up for neices and nephews. My mother did this for my sisters and I and we began our own tree decorating with a full tree. I decided to take the plunge and buy HallMark ornaments for my children last year. I got a Jessie (from Toy Story) ornament for my youngest and a Barbie ornament for my older daughter. I put the ornaments in their stockings (which is what I usually do) and was sorely disappointed to find them broken the next morning. They were made of very thin plastic, but I hadn't taken them out of the box at the store to see them-my bad. I had thought though that for $12+ I would be getting a quality product. I think these ornaments are mass produced expensive brittle plastic. I'll stick with the unique ornaments I can pick up at craft shows and out of the way stores.

    Women and Hormones!

Pregnant at 47 – or is it something else? I exercise. I diet. I meditate. And yet – the past few weeks, I was baffled. Who would have thought that in less than a year I would gain 15 pounds? Who would have thought that my mood would erratically change from “ready to conquer the world” to “I just want to lay down and sleep?” Who would have thought that I can be bloated in 1 day and then feeling slimmer again the next day? I thought I was pregnant at 47! I blurted out to my husband, “What kind of joke is this?” To read more: http://gottalovemom.blogspot.com/2011/10/pregnant-at-47.html

I always just roll it up in a ball and put it inside the closet and when I need to use it, it's all wrinkled...
    Well, I have the "help"!!

First you have to find all four corners. After you found all four corners, you need to fold it in half. Next turn the corners inside out, and then fold it in half again, and then again!! And YOu're DONE!!!

I thought that might help some people just like it helped me!!!! :)

The bully inside: Women who can't take a compliment Why so many have a tough time graciously accepting praise I recently approached a woman in my local gym, admiring her turn at the weight machines. "Wow, you are really strong," I said. "That's an awesome amount of weight." She looked at me blankly. "What's wrong with it?" "Nothing," I responded. "It's just impressive." “What do you mean by that?," she asked, eyeing me. "Uh, I don't know," I stammered, flummoxed. "I mean…It’s great. I just…anyway…O.K. then.” And I backed away slowly. This sort of thing happens all the time. I once complimented a retail clerk’s hands -- no kidding, she had gorgeous hands -- and you would’ve thought I had just handed her a mash note. Recently health writer Leslie Goldman addressed the issue of female discomfort upon receiving a compliment in her Healthbreaksloose blog. When another woman complimented Goldman’s legs Goldman said “‘Oh my God, are you kidding me?! My legs are covered with spider veins!’” Why, Goldman wrote, do women have such a tough time graciously accepting praise and simply saying thanks? In Goldman's view, the pressure to reject a compliment is ingrained in women from an early age. "I think women are just kind of raised to seem humble," Goldman told Kathie Lee and Hoda on TODAY Wednesday. Developmental psychologist Dr. Robyn Silverman suggests that at least when it comes to compliments about a woman’s appearance, an “inner body bully” makes women deny that the flattery could be true. "[It] tells us we're not thin enough, we're not good enough and not worthy enough to take the compliment and so we downgrade it," Silverman, author of "Good Girls Don't Get Fat" told TODAY. With the ever-rising gas and grocery prices, the more people can do for themselves the better. The term "Victory Gardens" have an ever-increasing prevalence in everyday communities.

    Valentines Cooking

Julia Child is such an amazing inspiration! I delighted in the summer "foodie flick" Julia and Julia. Wonderful actors/actresses with a modern day "social network" twist. The image is a reminder of how much love for Valentines day Julia and Paul had. This creates a desire to cook a great meal for my husband - but I don't think I could ever publish the tub picture! What are you cooking for your significant other for Valentines? Bon Appetit! www.cookwarecravings.com

For Valentines: Julia Child’s Master Crêpe Recipe: Ingredients: 1 cup flour 2/3 cup cold milk 2/3 cup cold water 3 large eggs 1/4 teaspoon salt 3 tablespoons melted butter, plus more for brushing on pan Directions: 1) Mix all ingredients until smooth in a blender or with a whisk. Refrigerate. 2) Heat a non-stick frying pan over medium heat. Brush with melted butter. 3) Pour in 2 to 3 tablespoons of batter into the center of the pan and then tilt the pan in all directions to cover the bottom evenly. Cook about 1 minute, or until browned on the bottom. Turn and cook briefly on the other side. 4) Cool on a rack or plate as you finish making the rest. Serve as desired. This is wonderful! Add some beautiful berries and a pinch of powdered sugar. Oh --So French!

    Apples top 2011 'dirty dozen' list, says group Apples are the most chemically contaminated produce, says a new report by the Environmental Working Group, a non-profit focused on public health. The report suggests buying organic apples instead of conventional, and names other fruits and vegetables that rank highest in pesticides. Organic produce is grown using materials of plant or animal origin, instead of chemicals. On the "dirty dozen" list are: 1. Apples 2. Celery 3. Strawberries 4. Peaches 5. Spinach 6. Imported nectarines 7. Imported grapes 8. Sweet bell peppers 9. Potatoes 10. Domestic blueberries 11. Lettuce 12. Kale/collard greens The group also lists the "Clean 15," or those that rank lowest in pesticide residues. These are: 1. Onions 2. Sweet Corn 3. Pineapples 4. Avocado 5. Asparagus 6. Sweet peas 7. Mangoes 8. Eggplant 9. Domestic cantaloupe 10. Kiwi 11. Cabbage 12. Watermelon 13. Sweet Potatoes 14. Grapefruit 15. Mushrooms "Though buying organic is always the best choice, we know that sometimes people do not have access to that produce or cannot afford it," EWG President Ken Cook said. "Our guide helps consumers concerned about pesticides to make better choices among conventional produce, and lets them know which fruits and vegetables they may want to buy organic." However, United Fresh Produce, the trade association representing produce companies, calls the report "misleading." In a statement to CNN, the group said: "At a time when medical experts strongly urge Americans to realize the health benefits from eating more fruits and vegetables, it is irresponsible to mislead consumers with a sensational publicity stunt disguised as science. While its authors admit the 'health benefits of a diet rich in fruits and vegetables outweigh the risks of pesticide exposure,' the Dirty Dozen list will almost certainly discourage many people from eating the recommended amounts of fresh produce and potentially diminish the nutrition and health of millions of Americans." The EWG report is an update from the 2010 one. It is based on data collected by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Samples were tested as they were normally eaten- washed, and sometimes peeled.     Living Your {DREAM}

A circle of moms who want to acheive the ultimate life-- living your dream in every way-- personal life, home life and work life... I think it's possible...who's with me? Come here for inspiration!

    LATEST POSTED BY: gottalovemom
It seems like there are so many things we want to accomplish. We are always multi-tasking. Our to-do and bucket lists keep on growing.

We look at our lists and we say, “How am I going to accomplish any of these tasks at all? Who has the time”

What about doing something just for fun? Does not have to be elaborate. Just one thing that will make you smile.

So pick one, focus on it, and make an effort to do it every day – until it becomes a habit that makes you smile and you laugh out loud: Live life, one simple step at a time.

    Fun for me involves art.

Art is a big part of my life. I am happy when I'm doing something creative. I love music but I didn't get a chance to be really good at it, unlike my 4 children who play the guitar, piano and violin. I love listening to them -- or just listening to Lady Gaga's "Free as my Hair" song.

There’s a song that I started learning how to play. I haven’t played the piano in decades. My hands are stiff, and my eyes couldn’t see the notes as clearly as I did when I was younger – but those are just excuses.

I learned that if you really want something, you’ll find ways to make time.

    Cookware Cravings

Let's talk cookware! If you are a "boomer - or pre boomer" don't be surprised if the cookware you are craving is now stainless steel. As we become more "older -ugh" and more confident in our cooking style, we tend to gravitate toward a higher end product. (This is a NPD verified fact based on age groups). While there is always a place for aluminum nonstick fry pans for a quick meal and a speedy clean up - more and more are watching the cooking shows demonstrating advanced cooking techniques. For that type of lifestyle - people want a better quality pan to deliver a better result. For more information: www.cookwarecravings.com

    LATEST POSTED BY: Megaware 2.0
Cookware tip of the day: Stainless steel is the most universal and commonly used type of "chef cookware". While stainless steel is extremely durable, make sure the base is heavy. Stainless steel is a poor conductor of heat. For that reason, the construction of the bottom of the pan is essential. All of the higher end stainless pots and pans need copper or aluminum or tri-ply in the base/core to evenly distribute heat. The stainless exterior layer allows for the product to look good, and clean up easy. If the core of the pan is thin, your cooking may be subject to hot spots and periodically burn food.
