About Me
  • Personally, I've been married for 2 decades to my high school sweetheart and I'm a mom to 3 kids-- two teen boys (both in high school with one preparing for college) and an elementary age girl. Professionally, I am an author with a book about to be handed over to an editor and a second book hot on its heals in the works. I am a freelance writer with essays in parenting publications nationally & internationally. In addition I am a professional blogger and have worked for the sites such as the award winning Parenting Magazine online as well as a founding blogger for Cafe Mom and BlogHer. I am a pioneer in the mom blogging industry and founded the site mommybloggers.com. I've been in the game long enough to call myself an expert in this field but I don't because I understand the genre well enough to know that every mom who blogs is an expert at what they blog about--their family. I can, however, share the near decade of knowledge I have on the subject and teach those who are just starting out in this blogging world how to navigate the waters in this huge ocean of bloggers. I've recently branched out into travel blogging and tech blogging which has been an amazing experience! I am an expert on addiction recovery. (Personal experience can do that to you.) I am a gamer. I have alpha tested many MMORPG's for deveolpers (and love playing!) as well as reviewed and tested games and programs for Nintendo, X-Box360, and PS3. I'm learning all I can know about gaming and online gaming safety. I wouldn't say I am an expert but I will say I know more than the average PTA mom. ;-) I have been online since 1990 in one way or another. From message boards to blogs. From community member to community leader. I have been there/done that and am still coming back for more! What can I say? I love being a part of a GOOD community! My heart is in writing but my playground is in the community. It's the best of both worlds for me. --- My blog: http://www.mommyneedscoffee.com Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/javajenn Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/jennifersatterwhite

JennS participated in the Live Talk The Kids Grow Up

I know personally, if someone says something negative about something I've written about my child, it is much harder to take. This is a film about your child so how do you handle any negative criticism that may come your way? How does that fit in with having an entire film about her?

Are your kids leaving for college soon or they're already off? How are you feeling about the transition? Join a live chat with Doug Block and Marjorie Silver as we talk about Doug's newly released film on raising their daughter and her departure for college. Let's talk about ways we all handle this great big change in our lives. The New York Times called the film "remarkable" and we look forward to a great conversation with Doug and Marjorie!

Since I haven't been able to see the movie, tell us more about it and the concept of it. It must've felt like releasing another baby into the world!

Doug, Marjorie-- Do you encourage them to look anywhere they can go in the country or did you try to encourage her to stay closer to home? I cannot imagine FLYING to visit my own baby...err..college son.

So how do we prepare THEM for getting ready to go off? I mean, I can only do so much mental prep for myself. Where do you begin?
