I got involved with Head Start in North Philadelphia as a result and I appreciated firsthand the programs he instituted in the mental health system because of his sister's illness and the lack of services. Then I witnessed the news of the assassination.....I remember how I sat on the floor in front of the TV in Levittown and how devastated I was. Then in quick succession the assassinations of Bobby Kennedy and Martin Luther King. I literally gave up. I didn't trust that we could ever see the country led by someone who would put it first, rather than being reelected and their own self interests.
But I knew intuitively from early on learning about and listening to Obama that he was the opportunity for real change, There were times when I doubted that our population could elect such a man, but most of the time I believed.
It is wonderful to know that for eight years he can be influential....get us back on a humanitarian track, where the government can consider the needs of those less fortunate. And it is wonderful to know for my children and my grand children that things might get better.
I love all of you so much and feel better for you knowing Obama is our president.
