  • Jennifer James I'm still baffled by how many people are bemoaning the First Lady's sleeveless dresses and tops. In Maureen Down's column today, she revealed that David Brooks told her in a taxi last week, “She’s made her point. “Now she should put away Thunder and Lightning.”

    "Thunder and Lightning"?

I was beginning to gain a lot of respect for David Brooks, but now he is back where he began as far as I'm concerned -- with the other middle-aged GOP men who not only don't have great ideas for living in 21st century America, but apparently don't have realistic ideas about who a woman is and why she can wear any darn thing she likes whether she has killer biceps or not.

    • Brandie I think it's completely stupid and dumb that we are talking about her showing her arms -- well, I mean not us as in you and I, I mean us as in society - clear as mud? Seriously with all the crap going on today , IMO this is such a stupid stupid stupid issue. So she showed her arms, big freaking deal. I don't get it. But whatever.

    • Emily I love that even though there have been these ridiculous, snippy comments, she's paying no attention and going ahead and wearing her beautiful outfits. She looks fantastic and isn't shying away from being a tall, beautiful, strong woman, no matter how much some people might try to push her down.

    • Deborah Is that all it takes to get DC and the nation to shiver in their boots? Honestly?

    • Becki I'm having flashbacks to criticisms of Hillary Clinton's hairbands, ca. 1992. This is a brilliant, talented woman with goals and principles. She's not wearing anything inappropriate or obscene. Why on earth are we focusing on her arms instead of her brains?

    • gottalovemom Complaining about totally toned biceps? There are far more important issues to be whining about..I think we should all post our biceps! Not all conservative/GOP have the same view as David Brooks but those who make these comments aren't helping at all.

    • SanDiegoWriter I agree, Becki -- why are people focusing on her LOOKS? Yes, she's beautiful, but that is beside the point. She is brilliant and real. That should trump everything else. Women's looks are always dissected. You see it on every news station. The men could be over the hill and homely but almost every anchor woman is model perfect. It's not right. Michelle just rises about it all. She's a class act. What a fine example she sets.
