MelissaSchober For those of you asking questions about child care, end of life care, or eldercare... The answer is that I don't know. I know there is plenty of attention being paid to eldercare/http://http://www.rwjf.org/pr/product.jsp?id=28231 /hospice as part of the contiuum of care. And it is true that most people want a different death experience than they actually receive. I'd try Death With Dignity or maybe National Palliative Care Assoc. for details on their efforts to include certain provisions in the billWith regard to child care. Physical care for children would be quite good, I think, under the bill. States have been v. successful with SCHIP and so I think could be successful here too. If you're speaking about daycare or developmental care for kids, the answer again is "I don't know." I'm honestly still wading thru the 600+ p Senate bill draft and the House committee draft. And it changes day-to-day too -- there were over 300 amendments pending the Senate bill when the HELP committee started work.

MelissaSchober I think we'll see some better results that will make things easier for families. For example, my daughter has asthma. She is rarely ill because we manage her condition and she has a regular provider who monitors her at well-baby appts.
If we didn't have health ins. then she would be more likely to have attacks, requiring her father or me to take time off. Again, we're lucky here in that we're both white collar workers with paid leave.
Compare us to the 60-some-odd percent of low wage workers with NO paid leave of any kind and those without health ins. -- their lives are much more disrupted by medical crises. So on that end, I think it'll help.
But in terms of national daycare assistance? No, I don't feel hopeful that is going to come with this bill. This bill is a juggernaut on its own and Congress is already working on this, climate change, energy issues, and more. Adding in another before recess... Doubtful, very doubtful.

Brandie Then do you think Congress is taking on too much too quickly. I hate to say it but I was so dismayed with cap and trade being 1300 pages and them only get the bill the night before. How can our congress effectively vote under those conditions? How many things are in there that no one caught that could have been rewritten or wasn't in our best interests? If the health care bill goes the same way - constant changes, hundreds of pages, and the final bill only being given with less than 24 hours until teh vote, how can we trust congress to do what is best for us?
