Amy M. Hi everyone! We are traveling from Chicago to Punta Cana (The Dominican Republic) at the end of May. I am looking for some tips and ideas on traveling with our 10 month old. I already suspect I will need to pack a suitcase full of snacks for the kids (my other child is 4-1/2).
Has anyone taken an infant to a beach? What do you do with all of your time? I can't have her out in the sun all day long. Any suggestions on how to spend the day with a baby? I am hoping that I won't have to sit in my hotel room all day long during our stay.
We're also taking the kids to Disney World in June. Any suggestions on how to spend the days? I'm not really worried about my preschool but I know I'll need to keep the baby somewhat entertained.
Please share what works for you!

Becki See if you can buy or borrow a little sun shelter for the beach. We had a little pop-up tent type thing when my daughter was a baby. Not only did it provide some much-needed shade, but it was fun to crawl into and out of (for the baby...not so much for me!). It also dismantled and reassembled easily so it wasn't hard to travel with.

Amy M. becki, that's a good idea. i hate to miss out on the beach. i'm not much for laying out but i know hailey will want to play in the sand and i don't want to miss out on that. i'll have to look into something like that. maybe from "one step ahead"?

Brandie I like Becki's idea of the little pop tent. I think One step ahead sells fabulous summer clothes too - as in lightweight long sleeved tops that are very breathable and block uva/uvb rays. I know I saw them just a year or two ago in a catalog. And I think it's one step ahead, but I'm not sure.
Are you flying? I'm not sure how much you can bring through security, but I do know this, you can walk through with an empty bottle and fill it at a water fountain after you cross the security line. It's a lot cheaper to do it that way then buy at the airport (I assume you are flying out of O'Hare?).
I would say be prepared to have to leave the beach. Research the area now - are there shops you can walk through to get a break from the sun without having to use the hotel. And if you have to use the hotel, well, I would say bring a couple of movies to watch (either on a laptop or on a portable DVD player) for yourself.
Other than that, in general traveling with children will require a lot of flexibility on your part. Good luck - let us know how everything goes when you get back!

Brandie A new toy or two. Will she color? Then maybe a coloring book and crayons. A favorite lovie (blanket, doll, etc). Play off of what she already likes - have a few stand-bys you know she always loves as well as a few new things to keep her occupied too!
