juliepippert Just finished The Art of Racing in the Rain and loved it!!! Yes, one could go all deconstructionist and talk about minor hokey/corny bits but the bottom line is that it WORKED and it was such an enjoyable read. In case you've somehow missed hearing about it, it's a story about the Swift family told from the perspective of the dog, Enzo. Enzo is frustrated by his dogness, but nevertheless finds ways to communicate with his family and make a difference in their lives and his own. It's not at all a corny or hokey situation, nothing ideal or glossy to it. And, unless you had a spoiler, the plot is not at all predictable. I really enjoyed it. It was different, but not gratuitously so, and creative and clever without being all Clever, if you know what I mean. And I just loved the dog and his perspective, which did not at all degenerate into any kind of annoying Noble Savage theme.
I really recommend it. I'm loaning my copy to my friend and definitely getting it for my dad, who is an amateur racer.

Tésa This one's on my list. I keep picking it up and putting it down. Just haven't been sure I would enjoy a book written from a dog's perspective, but you have me convinced. I'll be bringing it home next time.
