Thanks, Cooper, for the link. He is fun to look at but male fashion pictures like these (with poses, pouting, styling) always feel so forced and uncomfortable somehow.

A friend gave me the issue--which my 7-year-old Twilight fan immediately grabbed. I wish he'd get the cigarette out of his mouth. Why the photographer thought Robert Pattinson needed a cigarette dangling from his mouth to look sexy is beyond me. He's smokin' without smoking. (But, if he really smokes, he's probably horribly stinky.)

    • Are we getting psyched!!! An article I wrote in anticipation of New Moon's opening this Friday (at 12:01 a.m.) is appearing at BettyConfidential.com. Click on the"Team Edward's Cougar Den ..." (above) for the link. The website is calling the piece "Confessions of a Mom who Loves Twilight." (And P.S. to TheMotherhood: BettyConfidential is providing a link from my piece to TheMotherhood.) I've been listening to the New Moon soundtrack. At first I didn't like it, but now I really do. I especially like the first track, which is all piano, no lyrics. http://www.bettyconfidential.com/ar/ld/a/Confessions-of-a-Mom-Who-Loves-Twilight.html?pageID=1

Hahaha Becki.... So far he keeps them away all by himself. Tells em straight out he's not looking for a girlfriend yet. And then, his geekness comes out. Talks of how bridges are built and how things work, enough to where my eyes want to glaze over... and I realize that he is a geek in a pretty body! He knows this too! I pray for his future wife now!

Just to describe the mania going on here in my town, the local Edwards Cinema 14 Stadium is using ALL of its theaters to show New Moon beginning at 12:00 AM, 12:01 AM, 12:05 AM, etc. And every single showing is sold out through the weekend.

    • I am so excited I am taking my daughter and her friend on Friday at 8:30. I have a friend and we have basically dissected the scenes in twilight and parts of the book in New Moon. I actually read Twilight because it was a book in our book club and then I was hooked I read them all. The funny thing is I was consumed I had to know how it ended and all I talked about was the books. At work I have told all my friends about the book and have encouraged them to read it. I have very high expectations for New Moon since Edwards appearance will be minimal I expect to feel like I felt in the book. Sad that he left but Jacob kept me engrossed enough and then he came back and it was like ahhh.... I think people don't get that it's the story and his character that draw you in. It's not just a crush the way he treats Bella is like a delicate flower and his whole existence is about making her happy and keeping her safe. We kinda expect that from our mates but I guess with work and life everyone can't live like the Cullens.

Yes, the first few chapters of Twilight are awful. Meyer is a good storyteller but not a great wordsmith. When I complained to my Twilight addicted friend and scoffed at how people could like it so much, she said, "Just stick with it." I did, and then, suddenly, you can't put the book down, you can't stop thinking about Edward, and then all you want to do is spend your every waking hour with the books. New Moon tonight. Eclipse in June!

    • I've been disheartened by having to defend my age and love for the Twilight series. However, there have been some great articles posted on Salon & Jezebel recently. I wrote about this on my blog (http://notjustanotherjen.com/2009/11/dont-defend-celebrate). I want to celebrate the phenomenon that we're getting swept up in! After all, it's so rare that my inner thirteen year old comes squealing out. http://notjustanotherjen.com/2009/11/dont-defend-celebrate

"They don%u2019t miss what they never had." Eh, gotta disagree. I guess I'm one of the "they"s who like Twilight but would not consider myself a Twimom, cougar or anything like that. I was a ridiculously romantic teen-- I thought the descriptions of Edward's perfection were straight out of one of my own teenage daydreams. I'm still a romantic, but I feel like my marriage itself is a great love affair. BUT believe me, this is after a long dry spell following the births of my two daughters, ages 3 and 1! Still tired but really enjoying the work of keeping romance alive and well with my fab spouse (who I think can give RPattz a run for his money- DH is hot!) So anyhoo- just another perspective. Carry on!! And enjoy the movie tonight!!! It's going to be fun to experience that! Also, MojoMom, love the link in the Hartford Courant you tweeted the other day about Twilight!

Agreed. And in Midnight Sun (Twilight as told by Edward) you really understand how much pain the "impossible boy" is in from wanting a girl he believes will be much better off without him. And in New Moon he leaves her BECAUSE he loves her. I'm getting choked up just thinking about it.

      MojoMom

I am a latecomer to the whole Twilight phenomenon, but this rings true with something I was thinking about today. It reminds me of how I felt in Junior High, absolutely longing after "impossible" boys. Those feelings were so strong, and yet there was no outlet other than crying and being absolutely miserable and feeling like the biggest loser in the world. This was utterly normal but felt earth-shattering at the time. So in Twilight the fantasy is fulfilled because the roles are reversed, and the impossible boy is longing after her, too.

    • I'm basing this discussion question on a section of an essay I wrote earlier this week. (Here's a link to the article at http://www.bettyconfidential.com/ar/ld/a/Confessions-of-a-Mom-Who-Loves-Twilight.html as well as on my http://www.lifesupportformoms.com .) Here goes: My friend has a theory about why some grown women are, as Bella declares about herself, “unconditionally and irrevocably in love with” Edward Cullen, and why others don’t succumb to his charms. “The women who love Edward and Twilight are the ones who had a passionate love affair when they were younger,” she said. According to this theory, Twilight takes women back to those feelings — of wanting someone so badly and being wanted by him, of feeling desired, cared for, protected. Women who never had those passionate feelings can’t relate in the same way to Edward and Bella’s love story. “They don’t miss what they never had,” she says. “We miss what we had.”I think she has a point! What do you think?

Here's my recollection of the scary scenes: 1) A vampire being "broken" to death (by the Volturi). 2) The wolf fight scenes. 3) Jane and Felix attacking Edward in the Volturi throne room. 4) And a non-graphic--but disturbing because you know what's happenin--scene when Heidi leads human tourists to the Volturi to be eaten. (You hear screaming.) I will be taking my Twilight-fascinated seven-year-old daughter, and I know other moms who are doing the same with theirs. I'll cover my daughter's eyes or distract her with a question during the scary parts.

    • Okay, who saw it and what did they think? I'm dropping my teenage daughter off after school at the movie theater to buy some tickets... debating whether to have her go ahead and buy a ticket for her 9yo sister to see it with us (myself included)? Or should I go see it first and wait to take my youngest making sure it's okay for a 9yo before taking her or not? We did see Twilight but that was on DVD and after I had seen it first and could fast forward through anything too scary (although she wasn't scared - she loved it). What does everyone think about taking children younger than 13 to New Moon... too scary or not? Any opinions?

How fun! I'd love to go to a show, as much to people watch as to see the movie. I happened to be up last night at midnight and was thinking about the movie theater down the street, how crazy and fun it must be!! Sigh, was tending to my baby but maybe there will be another chance for fun next year!!!

    • I went to the midnight show last night! Lots of fun. All 11 screens at the theater, and probably 90 percent female, so the gals had to storm the men's room. The film got bad reviews, but I enjoyed it. When Edward is in the movie he's mostly looking anguished--about loving Bella, leaving Bella, returning to Bella, etc.

Well, Rob Pattinson is an awesome actor, because on Jimmy Kimmel live he's giggly, fidgety, chatty, almost effeminate. He's nothing like Edward. It's also so interesting how he totally turns off his very heavy British accent when he becomes Edward.

    • The results are in ....LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - "The Twilight Saga: New Moon" smashed the record for a single-day opening at the North American box office, and was on track to score one of the biggest weekend tallies of all time, according to preliminary data issued on Saturday. The vampire romance sequel earned $72.7 million across the United States and Canada on Friday, a figure that includes record-breaking midnight sales of $26.3 million, said the film's closely held distributor Summit Entertainment. The old record for a single-day opening was $62.2 million, held by last year's "Batman" sequel "The Dark Knight," which went on to become the second-biggest grossing movie of all time in North America before accounting for inflation.Such heights could be difficult for the "Twilight" sequel to attain. Still, industry observers expect it could finish up with upwards of $125 million for the weekend once Saturday sales data and Sunday estimates are issued early on Sunday. That would place the film at No. 4 in the record books, behind "The Dark Knight" ($158 million), "Spider-Man 3" ($151 million), and "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" ($136 million), and ahead of "Shrek the Third" ($122 million), according to tracking firm Box Office Mojo.  http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/wireStory?id=9145088
