I love this idea! (And, as a teacher, I can tell you that this will be proudly displayed for years to come!)

thanks, everyone ... wanted to mention that in wordle, I didn't put a space in teacher's name ... that way, it stays together when wordle randomizes the words - you can choose the colors and go for horizontal or vertical. And, you can add words or student names - so many possibilities! Have fun!

I love this idea. You could do all sorts of thing with the word cloud. So new media and DIY all at once!

    • I used wordle.net to put in characteristics of my son's teacher (compassionate, kind, caring, fun), along with synonyms for teach (guide, share, show, instruct, etc.) ... also included her name and then used PhotoShop to add 1st grade graphic ... printed it, slipped it into a 5x7 acryclic frame, hot glued ribbon on top and bottom & added a ribbon flower - easy & very inexpensive ... sorry for the poor pic - realized I hadn't taken a photo until we were at school, so I used my iPhone :)

I try to remember to grab a bunch when I'm at Ikea. My daughter LOVES to paint, so it's a treat for her to make them. You can't beat 2.99!

This is perhaps one of the best teacher's gift ideas I've seen in a long while (i.e., raising 4 kids and rotating through 4 different schools, that IS a mighty long time!) Thanks, you guys!

I always feel that customized art projects from young students are really thoughtful and memorable. Great idea!

Love those mirrors, you could paint and have the whole class sign with paint markers.

    • Our go-to DIY gift are these cheap Ikea mirrors: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/90044151 My daughter (now almost 6) paints them and they are just adorable (in fact, we've got a few around our house). We also include a gift card of some sort as well.
