What if weight loss wasn't about the weight at all, but lightening our load in a big picture sense? We're going to be talking about how we can clear the decks, get rid of the extra baggage and mess and stress in our lives, and lose the weight in the process. As we go into bathing suit season. Perfect timing.

Go to my site, Deborah - http://theshredheads.com - it's a 3 level (20 minute each) workout - Jillian Michaels (trainer on the Biggest Loser). It combines cardio, strength and abs in one workout. It's TOUGH - but when done consistently = great results. I did it for 30 days straight and decided to blog about it - hence the blog...

Alaina - I just read "The Clothesline Diet" and this woman literally walked around the clothesline in her backyard to lose weight. It was highly motivational.... what if every time you loaded the dishwasher or the washer/dry, you went outside and did a lap? If you do 3 loads of laundry a day, and a lap each time you put the load into a machine, that's 6 laps.

Deborah, Jillian Michaels' 30-Day Shred is a DVD!

Also, I just saw this great article in the March issue of Self - I forget the ratios - but it was like 150, 80, 20 - 150 minutes of mild exercise (like 4-5 on scale of 1-10 - walking to the mailbox counts!), 80 minutes of a 6-7 (active walking, jump roping, MOVING) and then 20 minutes of a 10 (where you have trouble talking). Do that weekly and you'll see inches go away. I'm curious to see how that works - though I'm pregnant so will have to wait...

Alright, what is the 30-Day Shred?

Alaina that's me too. And lately I've been physically in pain and that has sucked out what little motivation I had to exercise before completely. :(

After starting my weight loss journey in 2006 and losing over 40 pounds (with 4 kids), I still sometimes have to push myself to exercise. That is where the "wanting it" comes in. You have to keep pushing through because you want those results. It's hard sometimes. Find the exercises that you enjoy. Don't put yourself into a box where you feel you have to do the same workouts that others do. Make it fun!

I agree on the 30-Day Shred. That was the first real exercise I ever did, and as hard as it was, it got me moving. I LOVED the results so much, it motivated me to keep looking for something I truly loved doing regularly.

Alaina - I'm obviously a huge fan of the 30-Day-Shred - it's 20 minutes a day - though a very hard 20 minutes, and I found that with 3 kids and a full-time WAH job, I could definitely fit that in. It was very effective - particularly if you're already doing great with H20 and food!

Exercise is like icing on the cake. If you can get the diet on point you can jumpstart weight loss and then add in exercise a little at a time. Baby steps. Like going for a walk. Or walking up and down your stairs a number of times a day.

I was the same way. It was all about finding an activity that I actually enjoyed. Also doing something with a group, even if it's online helped keep me accountable. We did the 6-week challenge with EA SPORTS Active More Workouts, and it kept me on track. I've now discovered a love for running.

    • So if one can eat - like healthy - but one can not seem to get up off the couch then what do you do? That's my dilemma. I'm getting really good with H2O intake and the food that fuels my body but I'm horrible at working out - it's my brick wall.

I think I'm going to try the seltzer with lime in it Thanks all!

I went cold turkey the first time I was trying to get pregnant. Haven't gone back to it in six years. Perrier with lemon or lime helps when I need bubbles.

@YumYucky, a whole year before not liking it? @Renee That's what I've been doing. Only have soda when I'm out

I've just discovered sparkling water and I love it!!! It's all about the bubbles for me too!

      Mandi Welbaum

I stopped buying it, and I avoid it at the store. I let myself have carbonated water, because it's the bubbles I want, that fizzy goodness. A small child size cup for a few sips and I'm good!

Do you like sparkling water? Even a little juice with sparkling water will be better. I get my caffeine from black tea... sometimes coffee if I'm desperate.

I'm not really into pop - a sip every once in a while fixes my cravings but I'm really a water girl and I love me a cup of tea too!

I don't like the artifical sweetners either. But like the fizzy with say, popcorn. I'm sort of groovin' on La Croix--no sweetner, no colors, no sodium. It does it for me.

No soda over a long period of time was the key for me. It took a full year of NOT having soda until my taste buds actually found it nasty.

Don't keep soda in the house. Maybe have it as an occasional treat when dining out.

    • I have this terrible addiction to soda. I can give it up for months at a time, but I just love that bubbly fizzy goodness. I try to drink diet so I'm not consuming sugar. What are some tips so I can wean myself?
