My son got a shot not mist.

This is the first year we've actually been able to get the mist for the kids, two of mine have had issues with asthma in years past, but have now been off meds for over a year so they were allowed to get the mist.

I am Heather and I'll be getting mine as soon as we figure out what this cough is!

That is a great point, Connie. People with compromised immune systems should not get the mist form of the flu vaccine. However, you are a perfect candidate for a regular flu shot!

People cannot actual "get the flu" from the flu shot because it contains inactivated viruses.

I can't get the mist and neither can my husband or daughter because I'm on immunosuppressant medications. The mist is a "live" vaccine which means I can catch the flu from it. Be careful if you live with or are close to someone like me or someone with cancer.

That is correct! The shot is an inactive form of the flu strains and the mist contains live flu viruses.

I think one is live and one is not?

Both the shot and "mist" (nasal spray) are effective forms of immunization. Some people prefer the nasal spray in order to avoid needles.
