I'd love to hear some "dos and don'ts" for friends of new moms from the moms who have been there with postpartum mood disorders or psychosis.

I totally avoided my phone and facebook for months. It has hurt many relationships, but I didn't want to be around myself much less be around anyone else.

Do call.
Always. Make sure that the mom knows that they are available to listen. PPD is very isolating.

What story3girl said--don't overwhelm with too much info/advice. Check in via phone every few weeks to let her know you're there & care.

Don't offer too much advice unless they ask for it. Support and presence are more helpful.
