That's totally crazy, Jenn. I feel exactly the opposite! I feel like I have more time when I'm sitting at home or have no plans other than being at home and work. If I have tons of other things I have to do, I feel like my eating just falls to the wayside.

for me its more of a physical feeling. i mean, i have a lot of weight to loose. but those moments when i get that feeling of being just huge and unhealthy - clothes won't fit, avoiding going places, etc. i started couch25k in august (and finished, did 2 races) but i'm finding it really, really hard to keep up with running when its 4 degrees in the morning when i usually run, and i cannot bring my 2 year old to jog in temps like that

We started in August. Not sure what our trigger was... I think we were just unhappy with the way our clothes fit and how tired we were all the time.

Also, there comes a point when feeling gross and sluggish and uncomfortable in my clothes is not worth eating the cookies and candy and rich foods. By then, it feels so good to eat a salad.

I feel like when I have more going on in my life outside of the home....I pay more attention to my diet and my health. When I'm more of a homebody (after babies, in the winter...) I don't pay as much attention.

I always go back on the South Diet after New Year's, because I've spent from Halloween to my birthday to Thanksgiving to Christmas and New Year's eating all the goodies available at that time of year. In January, all the festivities are behind me, and swimsuit weather looms...

    • When is everyone MOST likely to diet? Is it a New Year's resolution for you, or swimsuit season (shudder), or a particular trigger? I'm interested to hear about motivations!

I read that a typical restaurant serving of pasta is three cups--which is six times the recommended serving! Definitely good to box up half (or more) of such a meal before starting.

Rachel.... I've also found that all of the cheese found on restaurant food can really hide the flavor of the meal as well... asking for "lite cheese" can cut calories and increase flavor of the dish

When I order at a restaurant I ask them to bring a box at the same time and before I even begin, place half of the meal in the box to take home for another time!

The dressing kills the goodness of a salad so we definitely use it sparingly and use olive oil based dressings over the creamy dressings. If we find a hostess that is too pushy with you eating more, my husband has learned to respectfully say I'm just waiting my calories as I try to lose weight. He still tries everything but small portions of the things that are high in calories.

Becki - We've discovered that eating out in moderation works and we order what we want. But the rest of the meals that day need to account for it - and we know we can't expect to see a loss on the scale for a day or so afterwards!

dip your fork in the dressing then put food on the fork- then your tastebuds get the flavor and not a ton of extra calories in each bite!

For sure, Erin! Also, if you're doing a burger or some kind of sandwich, it's better to go with a lettuce bun or no bun at all! That's just carbs that are unnecessary! :)

In restaurants, ask for salad dressing on the side!!! People always think salads are a healthy option, but restaurants tend to drench them in dressing, which adds a ton of calories.

    • I'm interested to hear tips on dining out at restaurants or as a guest in someone's home; I always find that challenging.
