Only a little. I can't quite figure out why I would want to and feel like a loser for not being more excited.

My kids LOVE the computer lab!

Meryl, I am with you. I type way faster than most programmers I know but in the typing world I am still slow;). We want the kids to be confident in typing!

We are going to be having the kids doing a typing program (just got the promo codes last week) and my hubby and I r going to start having them officially type up some homework for us.

They have already started dabbling in programming with Dad.

I am SO HAPPY I took typing in high school. In retrospect, more important than any AP class. The problem is my son's technology teacher types slower than he does so she does not set an inspiring example!

We took a tour of the upper grades this weekend. 4th and 5th, they are already on to circuity and robotics (!!) My kid has already out paced me in many, many, many ways. haha!

@GrayMatter- Sadly typing was one of the worst grades I ever got in school! I'm a wicked fast typer now but it comes with practice and knowing proper placement of fingers on the keyboard certainly helps!

@meryl and @techsavvymama, that's right. Learning to type is critical. I had to learn in 6th grade on old, non-electric typewriters. One of the most useful skills of my life.

Last year my daughter's teacher recorded them doing their final presentations which happened to be for an invented product. She compiled the footage and the kids loved watching themselves. It was so motivating!

My 2nd grade daughter is learning how to type and has been using websites for research and MS Word to write final drafts. Our kindergartner also goes to the computer lab. It's definitely a highlight!

My kids learn tech, but I wish they would learn better keyboarding skills. My son thinks his method is just fine and is resistant to putting in any time trying to improve. He thinks by the time he's in college everything will be voice to text anyway!

Honestly I think they should be learning more. A big pet peeve of mine is old-fashioned, out-dated education techniques. I think kids should learn to type too, Do you agree?

My son is in 1st grade as well and the highlight of his day (aside from recess and lunch, seriously) is when he goes to the computer lab.

    • Are your kids learning tech in school? My son has tech every Wednesday (he's in 1st grade) In third grade they make a power point presentation for the school. I joke that a couple more years and he can be my web developer ;)
