The Motherhood is one of Pittsburgh’s Coolest Offices

September 23, 2015 by The Motherhood

We’re excited to share that our headquarters has been named one of Pittsburgh’s Coolest Offices! Throughout the month of September, the Pittsburgh Business Times is showcasing the most interesting and inspiring office spaces in the Pittsburgh region.

Our new headquarters is located in Sharpsburg’s old Fort Pitt Brewing Co. building. In the early 1900s, this brewery was the leader in the local beer market. The motto, “Fort Pitt, That’s It!” is still displayed on the building’s exterior, as well as in the original terrazzo floor in the front lobby.

The freshly painted red, blue and grey walls of the renovated space match our company’s fun, bright and creative personality. Each team member’s office showcases a unique piece of art that was painted freehand by Stretch Carter, art director.

We love working in a space with such a rich history and fun quirks in the nooks and crannies of this very unique building.

2015 is an incredible year for The Motherhood! In addition to the designation of one of Pittsburgh’s Coolest Offices, The Pittsburgh Business Times also recently named one of Pittsburgh’s fastest-growing companies! The Motherhood is the second-fastest-growing marketing company, ranked #41 overall and one of just two companies in the top 50 with 10 or fewer employees.

10 Takeaways from Social Media Day Pittsburgh 2015

July 1, 2015 by The Motherhood

For the second year in a row, The Motherhood has been excited to participate in Social Media Day Pittsburgh hosted by Smith Brothers Agency. Across the globe, June 30 is a designated as a day to celebrate social media, and this year, 150+ of Pittsburgh’s most influential social media professionals gathered to discuss “Using Social Media for Social Good.”

After open networking, the speaker line-up began with Holly Byers, manager of brand partnerships at Pinterest. During her keynote address, she shared a preview of the exciting developments that have just launched or will be introduced soon, including buyable pins and cinematic pins. She also shared some tips and best practices. We were fascinated to learn that there is truly no “ideal” time of day to pin and that the average pin is re-pinned 11 times!

Then, the audience heard rapid-fire case studies from a panel of presenters (including our very own Cooper Munroe!) on how they’ve used social media to effect change for social good.

The Motherhood team took to Twitter to share key learnings in real time using the hashtag #SMDayPGH. Additionally, here are some of our favorite tweetable trends and news from each of the 10 speakers, courtesy of our fellow professionals who attended Social Media Day Pittsburgh.

Join PGH Momtourage’s #FosterLoveProject this holiday season!

November 24, 2014 by The Motherhood

The holidays are a great time to give back to your community, and we are honored to share the news of an amazing charity called the Foster Love Project in Pittsburgh, where The Motherhood’s headquarters is located.

The Foster Love Project was started by Kelly Hughes of PGH Momtourage to raise awareness about helping foster children in the community. Kelly has been a foster parent seven times and knows firsthand how few resources foster children have when they are placed in a home, sometimes arriving with only the clothes on their backs and a couple of items in a garbage bag.

Kelly and the Foster Love Project are collecting donations to make “placement bags” so that case workers can easily give these children a bag of their very own to take to their foster homes. Kelly says, “It will instantly be something new and clean that they can call their own. A new blanket, a stuffed animal, some pajamas, a book of their own.” Each bag will be distributed by the Pittsburgh Bair Foundation and other local foster agencies.

Donations are being accepted at six drop-off locations in Pittsburgh between now and Dec. 31. Here are a list of items you can donate that will go toward a placement bag, or you can donate all of these to complete an entire placement bag!

  • Small duffel bags (backpacks also accepted)
  • Blankets
  • Stuffed animals
  • Pajamas (any size)
  • Toothbrushes & toothpaste (fluoride-free or Toms of Maine brand preferred)
  • Kid’s bath soap
  • Books
  • Diapers (any size)

If you can’t fill a placement bag, you can also purchase gift cards to local restaurants like burger or pizza chains. This can tremendously help foster families who often have short notice of a child arriving – a gift card can really come in handy at mealtimes! Gift cards to Walmart or Target are also helpful for foster families during times of transition.

Any gift cards can be mailed to:

Foster Love Project
c/o Three Rivers Grace Church
1028 Chartiers Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15220

For more information about drop-off locations, please visit the Foster Love Project Facebook page!

Have It All: “Me Time” AND Fun with the Kids in Pittsburgh

July 20, 2012 by The Motherhood

It’s summertime in the ‘Burgh (home of The Motherhood), and that means lots of opportunities for getting outside and having fun. That is, when it’s not 90 degrees with 100 percent humidity – those days are reserved for an air-conditioned movie theater or the community pool!

If you’re looking for a new place to visit or activities to try, check out this list of ideas from The Motherhood.

Bring the Kids

Cooking at the Children’s Museum. Want to help your kiddos learn some cooking skills? Check out the “Cook It!” live cooking demos at the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh every Tuesday and Friday during the summer! You’ll get to make yummy things like vegetarian chili, guacamole, Waldorf salad and more!

Click here for the schedule!  Psst…don’t forget to check out the REST of the Children’s Museum while you’re there.

Visiting the animals. If the museum isn’t the place for you, maybe what you’re looking for is the ZOO! The Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium is a fantastic place to take your kids on a sunny day. There are tons of animals, including a brand new baby girl sea lion pup! And don’t forget to visit the beautiful aquarium! (It’s our favorite part!)

Running the bases at PNC Park. Lately, Pirates Baseball fever has been going around the city! The best day to take your kids to a game is on Sunday – also known as Kid’s Day at PNC Park. You can start out with the #1 Cochran Family Fun Zone on Federal Street from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm, and all kids will get a kid-friendly Pirates item at the gate. If you stick around after the game, all kids are invited to run the bases that McCutchen and the rest of the Buccos run, right down on the field! How fun is that?!

Appreciating pop art. If you’ve got some older kids that will appreciate art, we suggest a visit to the Andy Warhol Museum. Displays and performances are always changing and there are even some interactive ones that everyone can enjoy!

Just for You (and Friends)

Free yoga in Schenley Plaza. Get your zen on with outdoor yoga on Saturday mornings at 10 a.m. in Schenley Plaza (located in Oakland). The one-hour class in the shadow of the Cathedral of Learning will make you feel refreshed and ready for the day.

Fun with painting. Gather a few friends, grab a bottle of your favorite beverage and head over to Paint Monkey in Lawrenceville for a low-key girls’ night out. They provide the space and the pre-drawn canvases, you add the fun!

Bow to the creative genius of Squonk Opera. This is not your grandmother’s opera. With elaborate, artistic sets and original music and design, their “post-industrial performances” will blow your mind (in a good way).

Click here for Squonk Opera’s website.

Enjoy brunch with Bach and Beethoven in Mellon Park. We can’t imagine a better, more relaxing start to our Sunday than enjoying bagels and iced coffee from The Bagel Factory while listening to live music on the lawn in Mellon Park. The food isn’t free, but the music is. (Kids are also welcome.)

Put a few of these activities on your list for now or later this summer, and enjoy your weekend!
