The Motherhood hosted an incredible Blog Tour and Twitter party for the Centers for Disease Control to get the word out that the flu season doesn’t end with the cold weather months – and the flu vaccine can make a big difference to mothers and families.

Important campaign messages:

  • Every year about 20,000 children younger than 5 years old are hospitalized from flu complications
  •  Depending on the year, between 5-20% of the US population gets the flu
  •  Kids are 2-3 times more likely to get the flu than adults because their immune systems are less developed
  •  Most healthy adults are contagious a full day before symptoms develop and up to 5-7 days after becoming sick

Tips for averting the flu from the CDC and the community:

  • Throw tissues away as soon as possible (instead of leaving in pockets or on bedside table)
  • Encourage your young ones to cover sneezes with their arm instead of hands
  • Cellphones, the TV remote & computer keyboard host a TON of germs – clean them regularly
  • Get your annual flu vaccine!

Thank you to the Centers for Disease Control for joining forces with The Motherhood and to the amazing bloggers who worked on the campaign with us! Congratulations on a fantastic program, everyone!
