The Twitter party was sponsored by The Motherhood on behalf of Weight Watchers. All opinions are our own.
Ten days into 2014, are you on track with your New Year’s resolutions?
Research shows 70 percent of New Year’s resolutions are given up by the middle of January*. Why? Often, because we bite off more than we can chew. In setting broad, lofty goal for ourselves (“lose 100 pounds in 12 months” or “grow my number of blog followers to 100,000”), we are only setting ourselves up to fail.
Recently, The Motherhood hosted a Twitter Party on behalf of Weight Watchers Simple Start, a new two-week weight loss starter plan that was designed around the idea that the simpler your goals are, the more likely you are to be successful. Best-selling author, psychologist and TEDx presenter Dr. Elizabeth Lombardo joined us for the party to share her expert tips for setting and keeping resolutions. We also discussed why big goals don’t always work, and how making smaller, more achievable ones can help you find success.
We were so inspired by all of the fantastic tips that were shared during the party that we had to share them with you!
1. Fight against the “all or nothing” mentality; let yourself have small indulgences.
2. Stay positive with little victories.
3. Choose workout activities you enjoy to help you succeed.
4. Figure out what causes you to fall into old habits so you can avoid those pitfalls and stay on track.
5. Reward yourself along the way – with small indulgences that aren’t food.
6. Build a support system! Don’t try to achieve goals on your own.
All the best with your goals and New Year’s resolutions in 2014! Remember, be specific, keep it simple and make yourself accountable. Good luck!
