May 22, 2013 marked a significant milestone for the American Cancer Society: 100 years of impact and progress in the fight against cancer. As the official sponsor of birthdays, the American Cancer Society is using its own centennial birthday as a time to amplify its efforts and lead a powerful, unified fight to find a cure, provide support and save lives.
To help continue a century of momentum and “Finish the Fight” against a disease that affects more than one million newly diagnosed individuals each year, The Motherhood is teaming up with the American Cancer Society for a Twitter party at 2 p.m. ET on May 29, 2013. Together, our voices can unite in the fight of a lifetime.
A group of moms have opened their blogs—and their hearts—to share their own accomplishments and goals in life in the form of a “life list,” powerful stories about how cancer has impacted them, and their desire to help rid the world of this disease.
Children Teaching Mama: “Every second, every minute is a blessing and something for which I am forever grateful. The American Cancer Society wants everyone to celebrate those special moments in life, too. After all, shouldn’t we all celebrate life and enjoy every minute of it?”
Found the Marbles: “There was a time when cancer always won the battle–a time when we lost almost every patient. The progress made in the past 100 years is remarkable and many cancer patients go on to celebrate more birthdays and cross more items off of their life lists … Let’s join them, not only as they celebrate their achievements to date but as they move forward in making sure that cancer does not always win the war.”
Freckleberry Fit: “I have had two grandparents affected by cancer—my paternal grandmother lost her fight with cancer and the complications it brought, and my husband’s grandfather recently beat lung cancer. Bottom line, folks—it’s time to find a cure.”
Lille Punkin’: “I have seen so many struggle—and lose—against this unspeakable disease. While I wish for normal things like seeing my kids graduate from college, I also pray daily for several friends and family members who we just want to see another day.”
Mom Dot: “A few months ago the American Cancer Society asked me to let everyone know about a new Life List app they had and their 100 year birthday celebration coming up. I didn’t know it at the time, but the relevancy to my life was going to show up out of the blue. You see just 3 weeks ago my grandmother called me crying and said ‘I have cancer.’ Words no one ever wants to hear … The doctors feel very very positive about her recovering fully. In a week she will be starting 6 weeks of chemo and while that won’t be a walk in the park, we now have HOPE.”
According to the American Cancer Society, 60 years ago, one out of three people diagnosed with cancer survived. Today, that number has risen to two out of three survivors. The Motherhood is honored to support the American Cancer Society’s efforts to get to three out of three and to help them finish the fight against a disease that affects so many lives. Please join us on May 29 to #FinishtheFight.
