At The Motherhood, we are Pro Snow. Every one of us was born and raised in an area that experienced the full impact of all four seasons – including snowy winters. We’ve all gone through the rites of passage that come with that cold, white landscape, as many of you certainly have. That’s everything from making snow angels, snowmen and snow forts to participating in winter sports like downhill and cross-country skiing, ice skating and snowshoeing.
Climate change is putting these time-honored winter traditions in jeopardy for our kids and grandkids, so we were glad to hear about the I AM PRO SNOW campaign, a grassroots initiative of a fabulous organization called The Climate Reality Project. (We’ve blogged about them before.) It aims to bring together the skiers, riders, and winter sports industries most affected by climate change to educate the community about what’s happening and mobilize for action.
In 2013, I AM PRO SNOW, along with Warren Miller Entertainment, sent a small group of I AM PRO SNOW Ambassadors to Greenland so they could witness the effects of climate change first-hand. Using footage filmed during the trip, The Climate Reality Project created this fun, brief video featuring I AM PRO SNOW Ambassador, skier and two-time Olympic gold medalist Ted Ligety, who most recently won the giant slalom race at the 2014 Olympics in Sochi. Take a look!
Stay tuned for more videos featuring I AM PRO SNOW Ambassadors, coming soon. In the meantime, you can help, and here’s how!
Please post the above video on your social media outlets and help get it seen and shared far and wide. (Click here for the YouTube video link.) Just be sure to include the link to iamprosnow.org, where the videos will be embedded and viewers will have the opportunity to take action to help keep snow on the mountains. On Twitter, the hashtag is #IAMPROSNOW.
We hope you will join in to help this important cause!
