Benefiting from a Healthcare Partner

October 19, 2012 by Cooper

Last week, we had the honor of hosting a briefing session for WellPoint, one of the largest health benefits companies in the nation, with a wonderful group of bloggers.

The WellPoint representatives made the point that most of us think of health insurance as the bill-payer – but we can and should expect more. You need help keeping both you and your family healthy and out of the doctor’s office in the first place, and WellPoint – which operates under the names Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, Anthem Blue Cross, Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield, and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia, depending on your state – offers plans tailored to meet your needs with programs, tools and services that work with you to personalize your health care experience and fit into your schedule.

Such a great (and needed) idea, right?!

Here are just a few of the WellPoint services we love:

24/7 NurseLine:  When your doctor has gone home but you need quick health answers, this service provides accurate info and 1-on-1 counseling with experienced registered nurses any time of the day or night through a toll-free number.

Future Moms: Not only does the company help you tackle the day-to-day challenges of being a mom, but it also helps you before you actually take on that role, through its Future Moms maternity program.  This program gives very personalized support to expectant moms, helping them achieve healthier pregnancies and healthier deliveries – which can lead to having healthier babies.

Personalizing Your Health:  Knowing that moms have little time in their day to focus on just themselves, WellPoint and its affiliated health plans have provided a health and wellness portal that you can customize to your needs.  The portal lets you – and other family members (yes, Dads too!) – develop a personalized health plan and includes email reminders and prompts for you to do the things you need to do – like scheduling check-ups and working out.

Fitness to Fit Your Lifestyle: Being a mom often times means putting your family’s needs before your own, leaving very little time to work on your personal fitness goals.  Understanding this, WellPoint and its affiliated health plans have partnered with FitOrbit to offer convenient and affordable ways for you to achieve your personal fitness goals.

Thank you to the WellPoint team and our amazing team of bloggers for helping spread the word about the promising future of health insurance!

Show Your #LatteLove Today

October 4, 2012 by The Motherhood

Fall and pumpkins go hand in hand, and lately I’ve been finding all of the pumpkin-flavored offerings irresistible. In the past two weeks, since the air started getting chillier here in Pittsburgh, I’ve baked pumpkin spice cupcakes, pumpkin chocolate chip muffins, pumpkin bread and iced pumpkin cookies.

And I’m not done yet: I’ve also discovered pumpkin spice lattes, which – thanks to the “got milk?” team – I’ve learned how to make in my own kitchen, with just my coffee pot, stove and wire whisk. It is a delicious way to wake up in the morning.

Join us today at 1 p.m. ET for a #LatteLove Twitter party to rave about your favorite flavors, learn about the surprising health benefits, and find out how you can make your own at-home lattes so you can enjoy this delicious beverage even on a tight budget.

Here are the details!

What: Join us for a Twitter party to talk about making your breakfast better with an at-home latte! Americans love their lattes, and with one serving of fat free milk adding nine essential nutrients but only 80 calories and no fat, lattes love you back. Join us to chat about how you can get a nutritious and delicious start to your day.

When: TODAY at 1 p.m. ET. It will last one hour.

Where: The party will take place on Twitter, using the #LatteLove hashtag.

Who: @theMotherhood, @CooperMunroe, @EmilyMcKhann will be hosting.

How bloggers and their families are making healthy oral care a lifetime habit

February 22, 2012 by Cooper

A fabulous team of The Motherhood bloggers today kicked off the LISTERINE® Healthy Habits for a Lifetime Oral Care Challenge 2012. Get ready for beautiful, sparkling, HEALTHY smiles across the nation, folks.

For three weeks, the bloggers and their families are challenged to commit to healthy oral care habits – and they are already jumping in with such creative, fun and inventive ideas!

The Motherhood has partnered with the makers of LISTERINE® and REACH®, who are supporting the American Heart Association’s My Heart. My Life.TM initiative, with the common goal in mind to educate and empower Americans to make positive lifestyle choices each day – including good oral care!

In an information-packed conference call last week with Johnson & Johnson oral care experts, we learned so many critical reasons good oral care is a must-do, non-negotiable, daily routine for everyone in the family.

As Sara, Dealicious Mom wrote on her blog, “Did you know that brushing alone misses 75% of your mouth? Or that 50% of children will have a cavity or filling between the ages of 5 and 9? I know this sure makes me think twice about what I’m doing as a mom to help keep my mouth and my family’s mouths healthy! Since February is National Children’s Dental Health Month, there’s no better time to start re-thinking how you and your family take care of your mouths.”

We love what the bloggers are already sharing – it is so motivational, and fun! Team Momma Findings looks ready to go!

Yay Team Staten Island Family! How cute is this video!?!

The One Bored Mommy Team already has flossing, brushing and rinsing DOWN!

Keeping track of their progress – WAY TO GO Team LA Story!

To read along as the bloggers and their families take the LISTERINE® Healthy Habits for a Lifetime Oral Care Challenge, follow the hashtag #HealthyHabits. They are sharing important information, and really helpful tips and ideas to get you and your family on an awesome path to oral health and wellness!

Here are a few tips from pediatric dentist Dr. Kaneta Lott to get your kids started on the path to great oral care:

1) Make oral care fun! For example, make it a game; brush, floss and rinse to music; etc.

2) Reward good oral care behavior. One option would be using a printable calendar and gold stars to track progress.

3) Show, don’t tell. Make oral care a family affair and brush, floss and rinse with your kids.

To learn more about the American Heart Association’s My Heart. My Life.™ initiative, visit www.MyHeartMyLife.org.

To hear more about improving your oral care routine and see an educational message from professional snowboarder Gretchen Bleiler, visit www.Listerine.com. (Coming Soon!)

Thanks to LISTERINE, REACH and our top-notch blogger team, we’re feeling very inspired to clean up our oral care acts, how about you?
